2025 blacktail rut thread
« on: October 14, 2025, 06:14:45 AM »
Didn't see the normal blacktail rut thread so I figured it was about that time.   Last year opening weekend the bucks in our area were dumb, deaf and blind, so far this year, they are not interested too much.  Have a couple bucks on a camera that pay no attention to the does, except the last two nights I've seen them with their nose's in the air??  Maybe this weekend or the last weekend it will kick in??

I went out this morning from 630-10am and didn't see a thing.  Weather was too nice.  Didn't see any fresh rubs either.   Soon we should start seeing some action!!!

Between all my cameras I have two spikes that think the rut is in full swing they've been sparring for a week. No other signs, not even any cruisers yet.

Went out Sunday afternoon and saw 23 does and one little spike. He was with a couple does, but could have been mom and sister. 😂

We've seen 50 plus does since Saturday.  3 spikes and 2 small forks.  No signs of the rutting at all here.  Most of my bucks on trail cameras are late at night, very early in the morning.

Little bucks running does. Have seen some larger bucks sparring. Got sent a picture of a buck in town that had the biggest neck I have ever seen and had those crazy eyes. GMU 407.

The son and I came across two good bucks fighting in a front yard about 9:30 last night on the North side of Smokey Point/ Lakewood.  A nice 4x4 (3 point with eye guards) and a 3 or 4 x nothin.. A one horn'er.  One Horn'er got sent packing.  We looked on the ground where we saw them tussle for the broken off antler, but no luck.  We had drove past them as they were walking right next to each other, realized.what was going on, and spun the truck around.  I put all the lights on on the rig and we got to watch the maybe 15 -20 second show from about 20 yards.  Son might have got pics and video.  We spun the truck around again and got to see One Horn jump a rail fence, cross the adjoining road, and head down a drive way
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.
