Color phase fox
« on: October 14, 2025, 08:14:09 AM »
I’ve been tending a few wolf traps. As the season progresses I’ll oft times set a few traps for other furbearers. Fox seem to fur up earlier than coyotes. Also, from what I’ve seen, fox do well around wolves. Coyotes take a beating from wolves, and can be almost nonexistent where wolves are established.
This pic shows two Red fox. One the usual red coloration, and the other of the Cross fox coloration. Called that because when you hang the Cross fox’s pelt up there is a dark cross down the back and across the shoulders.

I still remember that super dark Cross you got a couple years ago, Redi. Post a pic of it if you could. I’d like to see it again.

Very cool. Do you have any photos of a cross fox hanging? I haven't heard that term before.

This is a different cross. Not the best pic, but you can visualize the cross.

Cool looking Fox!
Are Color Phase worth more than a typical fox skin?

Beautiful fox benhuntin. The black ones they call Silver fox.
Yes, Alchase, the cross and Silvers are typicallly worth more than the reds. Course there’s different shades of red too.

BKMFR: oh, you keep Grizz busy for sure! Laddy does think he’s king of all canines though!
redi: Thanks! Wow, that fox made an absolutely handsome rug! Very impressive! That’s the darkest Cross fox I’ve seen. I put up all my fox so someone could have a rug made out of them.

Awesome pics, and good info for those who don't see them!
FYI, I have a customer looking for taxidermy skinned foxes so hit me up!
