Rylee’s first Mule deer!
« on: October 14, 2025, 05:11:54 PM »
After 2 miserable days of high wind and rain, a few close calls but no luck, monday was a beautiful morning. We spotted 2 bucks coming over the ridge onto property we could hunt. We were roughly 1000 yard away. We put the spotter on them and saw one 4x4 and one 2x2 who was equally as big. Perfect, one daughter has an any deer permit. We make our way across the draw and up to them. When we got there we found no bucks, and a big coyote standing right where they were. We had no way to know where they had gone but I guessed the continued on the same path as a few does we had seen farther to the east. We hiked up the ridge to find nothing. We continued on and I decided to peek over the ridge while my daughter was putting her jacket back on and there they were 200 yards below me with a bunch of does. I ran up to my girls and got them and we snuck down and setup. The big buck saw me before I could get a range but I knew they weren’t far enough away we needed to dial. They started nervous walking away and the 4pt got in the middle of the herd with no shot. Eventually he found his way to the back and broadside. Rylee touched off the 6.5 PRC and down he went! I yelled at my oldest daughter to get on the gun and make the 2x2 but they went over a small rise and we could only see his head. By then they jumped the fence into property we couldn’t hunt, but we had one buck down! 12 years old and Rylees second buck, third deer! Of to fill my oldest daughter, Payton’s tag this weekend. Here’s a bunch of pics, some that I took and some that she took. One picture of the spine off of her buck from last year. Shot in the same canyon.

Beautiful Typical 4x4 Muley, congratulations Rilee!

Buglebuster, great job on the skinning, and nice and clean.
Love the pic showing the Backstraps already taken.
