Skagit Question
« on: October 24, 2025, 10:40:02 PM »
Evening everyone,

I’m hoping people can help me make sense of my waterfowl hunt. I hunted some fields near the Skagit bay today and barely saw any birds flying despite the heavy winds. Normally, I’d expect constant action precisely because of the heavy winds.

Could it have been because the birds were hunkered down somewhere else due to the two-day storm?

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts.

Thanks!

We're still early yet, I have yet to see any new pushes of birds coming down. I saw the same thing you did yesterday morning to the North of you. It was also 61 degrees out yesterday morning, any birds currently down don't need to hit the fields and feed much when it's that warm  :twocents:

So basically, do you think they’re loafing around in smaller, more protected waters?

Once sheet water is on the fields the ducks will start keying in on that.

I think the local ducks have been shot up pretty good and figured out where it's safe. As mentioned the migrators haven't shown up in force yet, once they do things will improve again.
Fish hard, hunt harder!
