Steelhead wed/thur
« on: July 23, 2009, 03:47:56 PM »
Wed was very slow with my worst day off the year with 1 hook up.. it was very slow for all the boats with 9 hooked for 9 boats.... Today was much better! we ended up hooking 16 fish, landing 6  2 hatchery and 4 nates, we lost 4 fish at the boat and lost a few more before we got them close, thats the name of the game, but with a little luck limits would have came by 10 am, the other boats around did alright, but I would say our boat hooked the most fish........  great fishing and more hatchery fish should be the name of the game the next 4-5 weeks

Nice job Hoyt, man those fish look small though.

Alot fo them are "small" in the 4-7 lb range, but man do they eat well...... in a about another week or so bigger fish will start to show, I got 4 last year over 14lbs

Not complaining Hoyt, been fishing for steelhead for 35+ years and know its awesome to just catch one let alone a big one. You can tell they are 2-3 salt fish, I can't even imagine a 16 hookup day with 4 salt :yike:

ya they certainly are, but they are fun as hell to hook! we had a 5 lb nate jump 5 times within 20 ft of my boat yesterday, about 5ft out of the water each time!! its alot of fun and these fish eat great, like I said next few weeks 8-12lb will be the norm with some pigs in the mix

Hoyt-does anyone ever try swinging flies to them? in only 10' of water or so i imagine it's totally do-able with a sink-tip.

Im sure it could be, along with othet tactics, but with the number of bank/boat fishermen I dont see it as a good way to go
