Hunting late season, where would you go?
« on: November 04, 2025, 11:08:42 AM »
If you only had late deer to hunt, west side, 4 days to getter done, where would you go? I didn't think I was going to have any time to hunt this year at all but it looks like I will have a small window of the last 4 days

If you know somebody with a Weyerhauser permit ask them if you can tag along.  Not sure if all areas allow it but Vail will let a guest in two days with a permittee for $100.  At least that was the amount a couple years ago.

I've tried elbe before but all the gates had a dozen trucks. Where at?

Do you have OnX ?  It's actually pretty inexpensive for what it does.  It shows property lines and who owns them....private/public

My Dad has modern deer and will be hunting areas in 654, 510, 667... We just went and hung camera's today... All public land... Some in the Elbe hills... Shot my first deer there... Has changed so much since then... There's enough area behind most gates a few trucks at one may not be a big deal... One time at Elbe we got to the gate and nobody was there... Shot a forky and came out to 3 trucks... Never saw anyone... And we only walked the road...
I love you... I really do...

I would take a left across the bridge and head up towards mineral and either take mineral hill road left and just before you get to mineral and park at the gate on the lake side and hunt into the first clear cut at first light then follow the road left when it splits this takes you up above the clear-cut this takes you into some older reprod that has a travel route for bucks on the highbank above the creek that follows mineral hill road. Tons of rubs and deer in there. Or I would follow the main road and pass mineral an there are quite a few gates on the left side of the road heading towards morton hit almost any of those that allow walk in acces and you will be in good shape. Above Ashfordon the south side of the river  also has some good blacktail ground once you cross the bridge stay right and follow the road up if you like hunting timber just drop down any drainage above the river and it will drop you into good timber and alder flats down lower or head up to the top and stay left and will get you up on some higher clear-cut 5 or six miles in or stay right and it will take you way back in to the headwaters of mineral creek with tons of timber hunting as you are dropping down the backside of the ridge towards the creek.

Me and my son have seen a ton of deer on that road off mineral hill it is the road that runs around the north side of mineral lake if you look at maps it will show a pretty extensive road system with a pretty huge swamp at the saddle  head to the right and it's a steep climb to the top of the mountain tough hunting up there but that's where the big boys go and hide when pressured get on top find a trail and drop down the north side of the hill and you will find there beds.
