First of all I want to say thank you all who responded to my other post. I appreciate all the feedback, although I want got to read all of it yet as I was busy whole day today. I got one!! Today at around 830am. No giant, pretty young 5x4, but I am happy I got some meat. He did have hoof rot, from the look of it, in it's early stages. I got home just now and noticed this weird growth on one of its legs. I assume it's all bone and it has some poking bits sticking out. It was the leg with hoof rot, I assume it's because of that? I don't think that effects the meat in any way right?
Here are the pics ( not sure how to just upload it)

Well first off nicely done. As far as the growth I couldn't say from just looking at the one picture but I personally haven't heard of additional growths or mutations because of hoof rot other than the hoof it's self and that quarter shrinking over time due to lack of use. I would guess a old injury or additional infection or something like that. I'm sure others might know more about it. Congrats on the bull.

Figured out how to attach pictures. Here's the pics. I assume it just broken bone that healed badly but idk if I should test the meat? Don't know where I would even do it. This is the shank of a hind quarter.

Looks like a broken leg. Seen similiar before. I wouldnt worry about testing anything. If the meat looks and smell good enjoy it!

We want pictures of the actual elk! If the meat is bad I think it will smell bad or he discolored!

:yeah:
Trust your nose and eyes.  If it passes both of those tests I would proceed accordingly.  If there was an injury to that leg it may also be the cause of the hoof issue,  just speculation of course but not all limping elk have hoof disease.  Unfortunately most limpers do in this state.  :twocents:

Turn in the hooves if for a chance at a special bull permit.

This one definitely had it. Hoofs on right side were deformed, not horribly, not yet at least but definitely this guy would be suffering soon enough.

Well done!
