Winchester SX3 problem
« on: November 29, 2025, 06:00:41 PM »
Started last year when I would pull up to shoot at ducks and geese, my sx3 would fire the first shell perfectly, eject it fine, injected the new shell and when I pull the trigger... nothing. Almost as if the gun was on safety! Manually eject the shell quick inject the 3rd and it would fire the 3rd shell fine.  To me it seems the gun isnt setting the firing pin spring back far enough on its own. Does this multiple times on me during multiple trips.
So I contact browming/remington and send the gun in with the same description as above and tell them to shoot the gun to see what I am talking about. What do I get back? A message saying we recommend we clean it and send it back... wtf?? I clean my shotguns religiously ain't no way this is the fix, but hey they are the gunsmith and thought maybe the gas cylinder was fowled bad. Get the gun back in April and throw it in the safe till this weekend. Take the gun on a duck hunt, fires first three shells flawlessly, second round same exact thing!!! Ugh! First shell fires, rejects and injects second shell and nothing, trigger is solid as a rock. Im at a loss! Any ideas or just send it back again and tell them to figure it out?

Not seeing any visual cracks in the gas piston anywhere, I have found some companies will seal those and it deletes gas piston problems. Might try that.

If I were you, I would remove the stock and super clean the recoil spring. Maybe even invest in a Sure Cycle system. Chances are it is not the gas system, or the firing pin, or the shells you shoot, it is the recoil spring. Been down the same road with a Winchester x2.

Check the gas piston.  If it has an internal spring, check that it isn't broken.

I've had 2 break on my Maxus.  Doesn't always cycle properly with a broken spring.

I had to replace the trigger return spring in mine. Caused about the same issue, little tiny spring that stretches over time, causing the trigger to not reset when fired.

Im gonna order one and try it. Everything else looks good. The gun was cleaned by Winchester so everything in the butt stock is clean clean. The piston looks good, spring in the gas piston looks great. Trial and error! Thanks all for the replys! Any other ideas I will try before sending back.
