Idaho Trapping Journal 2025/26
« on: December 13, 2025, 07:38:11 PM »
Tomorrow kicks off bobcat season here in Idaho and everything’s ready to roll. The truck is loaded down, the yellow notepad has 40 plus sets scribbled out, and the route is dialed from start to finish. Two totes full of traps, a stack of 220 buckets, and a big tote of bait are all packed and waiting.

I’ll do my best to grab a few photos along the way and keep everyone updated as the line comes together. Hope everyone else is having a great season and staying safe out there.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Very productive day! I got 20 different sets in. Walk-through/rubs, blind sets, dirt hole sets, and cubbies. Ton of ground covered. I have tomorrow off too so will be headed back out. I’ll do a better job carrying my phone for pics. I wasn’t able to get into a few of my spots still because of high water and being unable to cross streams. This is one cubby and one walk through/rub set I put in. I used a combination of beaver castor, fox glad, bobcat urine and gusto at my sets, plus a chunk of bait in the cubbies that is partially buried in the back of the cubbies.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Good luck and be safe!!

Lack of snow, high water and 70mph gusts of wind this week don’t help 😜 Good luck to you as well!

i have not seen traps left uncovered, wondering why you dont cover them. not criticizing your sets, just asking in a teaching moment and trying to learn new tactics.

On sets just for cats they still produce great. Coyotes will avoid them and that also keeps my sets functioning going for what I’m targeting. Cats really are not trap shy. The sets you see smoothed over are for coyotes.
