Darwood Outfitters
« on: December 17, 2025, 04:54:08 AM »
Anyone used Darwood Outfitters to do a drop camp in the Pasayten?  Buddy is looking into it with a group of his friends and thought I would ask on the forum. Thanks

Their website almost seems like they're geared more towards scenic tours than serious hunting. Lots of pretty places they can park you in the Paseyten that have almost zero deer, your buddy should ask them for hunter references  :twocents:

I was going to say "Darwin" anything would be on my no go list. Heck, you may be taking a 1 way trip! :chuckle:

But that Darwood crew sounds like they could be a good option!

I hope they don't take hunters where they do their summer pack trips. Ran into those guys on a backpacking trip. The area they go most often is beautiful, but had close to zero deer sign. I was a volunteer helping with a goat count, and didn't see any animals apart from Marmots & Pika with 2.5 days of glassing all day. I think they graze their stock pretty heavily in that area too as the meadow we camped in was pretty short and had lots of horse/mule tracks.

Steve and Jess are standup guys, and not exclusive to the Pasayten only. Have had succesful hunt in the Sawtooths. Aaron from early winters also a standup guy! Grew up and hunted with both!

There's actually a Darwin Outfitters in Wyoming (I don't know anything about them).  It does sound like you are looking for Darwood though...

I've looked into this a little for drop camps as well... There's also Early Winters Outfitting based in Mazama, Stehekin Outfitters, and North Cascade Outfitters...
I love you... I really do...

My brother and I did a drop camp with Steve Darwood in September of 2005, in the Pasayten. We were happy with our hunt. Ended up with one 4 point buck and my brother saw a bigger buck but didn't get a shot. Always wanted to do it again but haven't yet and it's been 20 years.

THe Pasayten is hit and miss even for a solo diehard hunter.   Typically it is a wonderful camping trip.  That being said, my Dad, some of you knew him as Idabooner packed for Darwood for several years.  He packed out some pretty good bucks over the years.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will pass it on to him and his group can decide weather they want to go in for a nice camping trip in some beautiful country. With the remote chance they can harvest a legal buck. Like most of those North Central WA GMU's the deer population is on a definite low. Not to say a few hunters don't harvest nice bucks up there but few and far between nowadays.
