Nothing for our group. Ends a 10-year run of elk camp. Sad.

RW

there is still another draw and all the return tag sales for months to come
I don’t see your odds being any better on future tags. In the past if you didn’t get an elk tag in the first tag sale, odds were you weren’t going to get one. Even being first in line a fish and game office.

Three of us all didn't draw for deer and elk.

No elk tag.  Drew deer.  Still deciding whether I’ll purchase it or not

Curious why you would spend $185 to apply and not buy the tag?
It was over $200.  I wanted to hunt elk.  After that application the deer didn’t cost me anything

So when does the 2026 regs come out? Presume most seasons will be similar to last year as posted in the 2025 regs online now?

No tags for us. Great way to start the drawing cycle this year.

I bought my license every year just to apply for the limited draws.  Maybe he's like me.  This is the first year I applied for the general tags because it wasn't a giant cluster f*ck to do so. I got drawn for deer and elk.  Will do deer for sure, still iffy on if I'll buy the elk tag.

The elk tag you drew(you told us in an earlier post) is one of the hardest i bet in the state. I've been fortunate to have that tag a handful of times the last ten years and there is alot of elk around them parts. Maybe lacking in the size/quality department, makes up on quantity. I think you need to buy and go for it! Beautiful country in there.

How many guys are turning their unit 5 tags back in after hunting it last season and realizing its been given back to the tribe  :bash:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

We have 6 in our group so we split 3/3. Half drew deer and the other half got elk. Not ideal as we’d prefer to hunt deer, but it keeps us together. I know of a handful of guys that applied first choice on units that had leftovers AFTER the initial buy last year and still were not drawn. Kinda crazy. I’m curious to see what the stats look like, if they post them

Not similar, the same, unless there is some sort of emergency change, our seasons are set on 2 year cycles, you could go pick up a 2025 reg book and I’d feel about 99.9% confident hunting the same seasons

Serious question please save the hate if you got it, I am not judging anyone.....What is the draw for just general out of state hunting in places like Idaho every year?   It seems sooo expensive for tags.  For Idaho it seems like it was around $600 +/- for deer and $900 +/- for elk.   I'm not hating on anyone for doing it, but I can't justify that much $ when those animals are also walking around WA for less than half that $ and not nearly the gas or lodging etc $$.  Is it better odds, chances, quality etc and if it is, is that for every tag or are there special draw tags?  I am gonna do it at some point in Montana as my son will be at U of M in a few years, but that will be more about spending time with him than anything else. Is it that?  Is it the hunting with friends and the trip?

Good luck to all the folks that did draw tags.

Thanks

Roger, I knew there was a reason but assuming things are always silly.

I'm curious to see how many people quit applying after a few years of not drawing and forking out a couple hundred bucks each time...  Lucky for me I have Oregon and my out of state OTC hunts so applying for DAV tags only in Idaho doesn't hurt the wallet.
