A friend of mine that writes for Peterson's Bowhunting just wrote a really good book last year about elk hunting. For his book he researched all the records for all the states and while Idaho has produced tons of big bulls, it just doesn't grow 400's. That bull in your photos is a top notch bull for Idaho, yet with the deducts he reduced signficantly in standings. Notice only 2 Idaho bulls over 400.
Looks like two guys are still fighting over #9....LOL

I can remember some hunts where a spike was a darn fine bull. I sell nearly as many cow hunts as bull hunts because we have 90-100% success on cows and for someone who just wants meat or hasn't been lucky enough to kill a bull, that cow is a darn fine elk.
I have always maintained it is tougher to kill the herd cow than the herd bull, she is the smartest elk in the woods when they are being hunted.

True story bearpaw. Here are a couple "high fenced bulls". Well at least for a couple months.

This is a wild bull on winter range in January 2009. A couple of my guides were out messing around and used a camera through their spotting scope to get this photo.

Another one of my buddys archery Bulls. This one is 350 gross. Called it the Idaho Roosie
He passed on this bull and thought it over that night and decided he would go back, the extras really helped this bull score.

Its VERY close lol. This one scores 141 1/4. So It could possibly gross in there. Odds of the other side being a perfect 5 are pretty slim so I would doubt it would net that well. My best so far.
