Benchmade
« on: January 09, 2026, 07:34:23 PM »
Gotta give props. I have a few Benchmade knives but never took advantage of the lifetime free sharpening deal they offer. 2 weeks ago I decided to send one of my pocketknives off to them.  Just got it back today. Cost me $10 for shipping. Blade restored to factory new edge along with cleaning, lube, whatever else.
I’m impressed. The blade is really sharp. Knife looks great.

Carry a small one almost daily.
A little Lerch 2".
They stay sharpest the longest of any knives I've owned .

I have what appears to be the identical knife but with a serrated blade. Love the knife but hate the blade. Would they re-blade it?

You'd likely have to pay for a new blade almost as much as a replacement knife, but it might be worth calling them and finding out. They are really high customer service.

Ya, I'd certainly expect to pay for it. The knife was a gift so it's sentimental.

They will replace it for a fee:

If I remember correctly you’ll pay $70 ish for a blade on that knife. It’s a Mini Barrage.

Just send in the knife. I had a mini griptilian that had a serrated knife originally. I broke it in half and they sent me a brand new non serrated blade.

Ehh.. They realized they made a mistake and they owned it. I'm fine with them, and also realize not everyone else will be. Given the current state of the world and the current push towards made in America goods, they're very made in America.

"Elliott didn’t offer excuses. In fact, he told me he “wasn’t surprised by the response” to the images, and that it was a “powerful statement..that was out of context.”

Benchmark, he explained, has “always supported the Second Amendment, and the Oregon City Police Department.”

“We remain committed to doing both,” he said, “but we’re not going to be destroying firearms again.”

In this instance, he said, the company “has to own it.”

I don't remember them bragging. PD asked for help and the PD burned them with the social media post. They got punished for being pro law enforcement.

This probably won’t go over well but I’ll just say it anyway.  Putting politics and made-in-America aside, Civivi (and others) make a better knife for a lot less $$.

And a much less inclusive warranty that doesn’t include free sharpening for life as near as I can tell. They do charge for sharpening though.

My EDC is a Gerber Sedulo and Buck 503 (both USA).  I've had the Buck for about 30 years.

It's good to see both mfg's reevaluating their legacy.

I've never had to send a knife out for sharpening.

I will admit that while still sharp, the Sedulo loses it's "shaving sharp" relatively quickly.  It's my first "powdered metal" knife, so perhaps that's indicative.

This is the first time I’ve ever sent a knife out for sharpening. I have stones and a work sharp and all the things. This free service got my knife wayyy sharper than I can so I’ll take it. Totally realize it’s not necessary and not for everyone. Knowing how to sharpen a knife is an art in my opinion. Some people are really good at it. Some aren’t. I’m not.

With that said, I just filled out the online order deal to send my Rant in next :chuckle:

I have a Buck 278 Alpha Hunter with gut hook and rubber grip for 29 years... I use to be able to get it shave your arm sharp with a stone... I seem to have lost my touch so I got a Work Sharp belt sharpener last year... WOW! Scared to shave my arm with it now... There's a couple models of Buck made in China now...
I love you... I really do...

I sharpen most of my knives myself using a Lansky system and I can put a better-than-new edge on most knives.  The exception being flexible blades and highly acute angles (less than 17 degrees); these are beyond my skill set.

I have a 3DK Fillet knife that’s about 6-7 years old and has yet to be resharpened other than stropping.  This thread has encouraged me to find out how their “free sharpening for life” works and get that done.  Or maybe find a local sharpening service.

When I was married the wife worked at JoAnnes fabric... Once a month a guy that sharpened scissors, shears, ect came in last Sunday of the month... I'd send her with every knife outta the house, shop, hunting, and fishing stuff, even garden shears... Through out the year...  :chuckle: Guy was awesome... Specially on the fillet knifes... Did all her stuff for free... He'd always wait till last to do mine cause they were at all different angles... I think my buck knife is 21 degrees... Fillet knifes varied 11-19... He could even do the seraded and make it like factory sharp on my daily carry... Was a nice perk... Now she works at Home Depot and I get no benefits from it... Not even an ex husband discount...  :dunno:
I love you... I really do...
