« on: Yesterday at 05:12:33 PM »
Looking to buy a CVA Opotima V2/V3.
What do i need to look for/buy extra, so that I can use 209 primer, and possibly put a 1x scope on it?

Lifelong archery guy, but have a BD muzzy and want to upgrade,,,,,,the bow is getting harder on the shoulder :'(

I have the V2 and love it.  They should come standard with the 209 breech plug.  They are tapped so you can put a base on it but when ordering one you need to measure the distance between screws.

They also make two different breech plugs...one to run the pelleted powder and one for loose powder.  Mine shoots lights out with that Blackhorn 209 powder--it didn't like pellets

I like the one Power tradition scope
I bought some white hot pellets I like those
I bought some power belt bullets
Get some extra 209 caps
I also like to use a straight line capper so you don’t fumble and drop them
I also keep a spare breach plug in my box and plenty of cleaning supplies
I have not muzzle loaded in years, but this year I really liked my optima V2 for elk

Thanks!

How about has anyone bought a muzzy online and had it shipped to their home?  Reputable shops to do this at/from?

I've bought 2 cva's from muzzle-loaders.com and had them shipped to the house. Both times went without a hitch. Fair prices too.

If you are set on a cva I’d suggest the Acura

I have the same rifle.  Some good things have already been mentioned by I can add my personal experience.

I had a peep sight base on mine but this season went to a Vortex 1x24 scope and it helps.  The sights are a personal thing based upon your eyes.  I shoot Blackhorn 209 with the loose powder breech plug and CCI 209 magnum primers.  With this I shoot green Harvester Crush rib sabots and either Hornady XTP or Speer Deep Curl 240 grain .429 bullets.  Both shoot really well and lots of others have the same experience.  You can practice with their Cheap Shots and they shoot to the same point of aim.

I keep a little zippered case with me with a Spinjag, some windex soaked patches, dry patches, a 209 primer holder, three vials of pre weighed Blackhorn, three bullets w/ sabots in a vial, electrical tape on the muzzle and a Quake Claw sling and you are hunting.  It is not a sexy muzzleloader but it is accurate and consistent. Good luck.
