1993 ford f250 OBS Dana 60 swap
« on: March 01, 2026, 07:04:42 PM »
I banged up the front end on my truck and need to rip the twin traction beam Dana 50 apart and replace one of the beams but for the same cost I came across a 1994 f250 being parted out that had a Dana 60 front axle swap and I'm considering making it happen, still weighing my options but wondering if anybody else here has done a similar axle swap

If I'm not mistaken the Dana 60 and some suspension items were essentially what made the difference between the f250 an f350

I plan on towing a 28 foot rv and a bunch of other stuff and it makes sense to me that this is the move to make but thought I'd see what y'all's have to say

I replaced the TTB on my 86 F-250 with a dana 60. It was a good fit, but required at least 3" of lift to clear the engine cross member.

I am not sure if the drag link from the D60 will connect directly to your steering box. I did high steer on mine.

Another item to note is that there was no need for a panhard on the TTB setup, so you will need to find a way to get one installed to prevent bump-steer.

TLDR: It looks easy on the surface, but doing it correctly and safely takes a bit more work.

Pretty much what Atlas said... I've never done but parted out a bunch of cars and trucks... May also involve a driveline extension/conversion to u joint change at the dana 60 end... And you're going to want your front gears to match your rear...
I love you... I really do...

I swapped a 1996 Dana 60 into a 1996 F-250.  If I remember correctly it only took about three hours from the time it rolled into the shop to the time it rolled out.  Complete bolt in.  No fab work needed.  All factory.  It all depends on what year/style of axle was swapped into the '94.  I would expect a 1994 axle to bolt into a 1993 truck in the same manner.  The 1994 axle has ball joints opposed to king pins.  The 1993 F-350 also was equipped with a ball joint front end.  "SHOULD" be an easy conversion. Make sure you have everything from the donor vehicle and the axle ratio matches what you have in the rear.  The axle, steering linkage,  the track bar and bracket, sway bar with end links and the F-350 leaf springs.  The TTB leaf springs are much stiffer.  You don't want them on the straight axle.  I have also installed a shackle reversal kit on my 1996 F-350.  Very worthwhile investment.  The ride quality and drivability were both improved.  I am now contemplating swapping to Super Duty leaf springs or a complete 2005 or newer Super Duty axle swap.  Much easier for me to improve the old truck than to justify writing a humongous check for a new one.
