Only quality deer tag I’ve drawn was my second choice
  :yeah:
Same here.  Now I only put in my first choice. I only want to draw the  the one area.  When I was drawn for that second choice tag it was a big disappointment and then put me at the back of the bus. (0 points)

I think quite a few guys draw their second choice, maybe 25-30%.  I’ve only drawn first choice once, other draws have been 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

I have drawn my second choice a few times, once on my quality elk hunt a few years back, and this last year on my mountain goat hunt.

This question seems like its from a place of lack of understanding the draw process.

When they pull your number they look at all your choices in order. You will get the tag for the highest choice with tags still available.

Its very likely if you pull a low number that only your second choice has remaining tags when your turn comes up.

Its not like other states where they go through everyones first choice, then move onto second choices. Here they do all your choices for that category in one shot. Then tell you “thanks for the donation, better luck next time.”

I have been drawn 2 times for Quality Deer in 28 years and both times it was my 2nd choice.

Never drawn 2nd choice.  First choice only once. Guess that's why I have 20+ points for almost everything. :chuckle:

I'm 50% on 2nd choice. which is about right odds wise I believe. The hard part is getting a low enough number to get a chance.

For oils I do that... And quality you get two so I'm a bit mixed on that... I used to only put in for one place for QD deer... But for buck I only kinda "know" 2 places... So I choose those... For antlerless elk I only make one choice in my main elk spot... I've hunted and been on hunts in a lot of the 300 gmu's... I couldn't tell you how many cow taggers I've given advice to that had no clue what they were doing in a gmu they never stepped foot in before... Drawing a tag is one thing... Taking the years to learn an area to get to know where to find game on the opener and after season starts consistently is another... Or just getting lucky... That's always nice... I'd rather chase spikes in my main gmu that I've hunted for 30+ years than go to x gmu I've been in twice 10-20 years ago cause my friends got a bull tag... But that's just me... To each their own... I don't have a problem helping them out and giving them some advice... But I'm not directing them in  the area's I'm actively hunting... When I give advice I put them in another area... Legit info... But not my spot that year...
I love you... I really do...
