Wow, those pics turned out great!  I still love the fuzz on his legs.

WOW!!!  Is it common for them to let you get this close?  I've heard there are some right here in Okanogan County, up in the Pasayten Wilderness.  But everything around here seems to be so skittish I think they'd probably flush wild and never give me a good opportunity.  It'd be awesome to just walk up and 'shoot' them at close range like this.

Quite a few years back my brother and I seen one up on Sauk Mountain, I told a few people about it and they all thought we were crazy so I never really brought it up after that, but it sure as hell was a ptarmigan.  Nice pictures!

Cool birds!  Every time I've come across them hiking they pretty much don't care you are there.  I think they are less scared than spruce grouse!  Gotta brush'em aside the trail to get by.  Here's a couple from a hike last fall.
