First pics with new D40 after 6 days in
« on: July 06, 2009, 08:55:22 AM »
Well Guys,

I am officially hooked on this trailcam thing. I bought the Moultrie D40 a few weeks ago just to get started in this. I put the camera out last weekend and went out to check it after only 6 days. When I checked it it still said it had 90% battery life and there was 103 pics taken in those 6 days. ALL elk every day of the week. I also noticed what looked to be slobber near the bottom of the camera on the front. Low and behold about 4 different Elk came up to the camera and basically licked that darn thing and moved it around with their nose!! I foud that was a little bit surprising.  I posted a few. I left it out there for a few more weeks to see what else may come through. This was just a trail that I have seen Elk on before. I did not use any baits as of yet.

Anyways, way cool....now I want another camera! 8)

I have hd the same problem with elk licking and rubbing on my cams. I had them nock it out out of one tree and kicked it and rubbed it around. It was 12' from the tree I left it in. Made for some crazy shots. I had to set my cams about 6' up to keep them from screwing with them so much.

Trail cams are fun I started with 2 and now have 3 and my buddy has 2. I would have about 10 but don't have the moola for them or the batteries. Buying batteries are like diapers!!!

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

I'd have to say being an owner of the D40 and a New bushnell trophy cam, that the bushnell is far better than the d40 and is less than half the size of the moultrie.  better pics lighter cam.  I will be getting another one maybe two.  I'd buy a trophy cam from bushnell before the moultrie. just my  :twocents .  There are a couple of pics from it on this page under Big bull and buck.  Oh ya and the batteries, 8 lith.batt.s last a yr. in the field.  My batt. is at 100% after about a 1000 pics.  If you want any info on it pm me for specifics
Work sucks!!!! I should be shed hunting
