Cat Story
« on: July 06, 2009, 09:17:54 PM »
A family friend recently told this story to my uncle, I had to share. This friend of ours who is as experienced and level-headed a hunter as any I know and in his 60's, went hunting up in Hancock land near Eatonville last year. He was not looking for cougar, but did have a tag for cougar and they were in season. While kneeling down and looking out over a cut, a big cat came tearing around a big stump dead at him. He had no option but to shoot from the hip with his rifle, killing the 9' plus cat 15' from his feet, after another finishing shot. The cat was collared, so he reported it, the tracker confirmed that he had captured the male cat on Blewett Pass, not once, but twice before, then the cat disappeared for nearly three years, ending up near Eatonville. It made me wonder about these tracks we found, large cat tracks right up on Blewett about three years ago, staking out a deer trail. Could have been? Maybe. It turned out the cat had a severely abscessed tooth, it was beginning to get hungry, having difficulty hunting.

I will qualify that statement... I am not trying to degrade the guys cat or his opinion of it... a good mature tom, with the hide off, will commonly measure out about 8 1/2 to 9 foot.. .with the hide on... you get one that goes 8 foot and you should be all smiles!!!

I guess he made it sound like he was doubting the cat would go 9 foot... maybe I read to much into it and I am not trying to offend ANYONE...

My first lion was a 10 year old female that is no monster and I am very proud!!

Can you imagine what would be going through your head? You shoot it and it catches on fire? That's a demon cat! LOL.
I would be bummed if it ruined the hide.

Wow, just read the story.  Now THAT is a hunting story!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Gives a whole new meaning to some HOT P.....  ummmmm well never mind..

Great Story!!!!
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Aneoakleaf is a female and the cougar she is talking about was more than likely taken with a Bow.  I'd take a 6'2 cougar with a bow over a 9' with a rifle.
