Deer in Camp
« on: July 06, 2009, 09:49:23 PM »
I was camping in an organized NFS camp. I was sitting next to the fire and looked up. There was a deer not 20 feet from me and 5 feet from my tent. The deer turned around and walked away.
That night I could hear hoof prints only feet from the tent. Not sure why they were so close. There were more than one deer.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

We were fishing at a lake and I fixed stake and taders and this deer came in looking for a handout!

I had a doe stick her head in my wall tent flap one night. I thought for sure it was a bear coming to eat me.   :yike:

last year me and the wife went camping for a couple of nights, the first night we could hear the deer walking around the camp site, and just when we thought they were gone, one came cruising right by the tent and got tangled up in the guidelines and almost pulled my tent down  :yike:, scared the hell out of the wife  :chuckle:.

Brought my wife along on a archery elk hunting trip in our tent trailer and one night had a herd of elk come thru with a bugling bull at midnight and scared the crap out of her, one even brushed the tent trailer. Funny thing was I was so tired from the hunt that I didn't even wake up  :chuckle:

On a over night trip on the PCT last year past the Kenndal Cat Walk, we came back to camp after a little site seeing and walked up to a doe and her fawns licking the sweat off our packs.

I was scouting for elk in Arizona about 8 years ago a week before the season opened.  I parked my blazer in little meadow and slept in the back of it one night.  About 5 or 6 in the morning I woke up to the call of nature.  I climbed out the back and found myself surrounded by a bunch of brown blurs (I didn't have my glasses on).  At least 50 elk had made that meadow their morning buffet.  They just slowly moved off with hardly a care.

Last year in deer camp, my friends in the other tent had at least one Coyote at their tent door sniffing around while they slept (at least they tried to sleep while listening to the sniffing). I slept through it all LOL. I believe he came back two nights in a row!!  :chuckle:
