Migratory Bird Stamp...Get them Now!
« on: July 08, 2009, 07:43:16 AM »
Just a heads up.... I just picked up our Migratory Bird Stamps from our local post office, and the guy behind the counter claimed he barely received any this year, he only had 8 in the envelope, and we bought three of them.

Buy early.

Are these the state stamps or the Federal stamps?

i have not gotten a state stamp for several years now, it is my understanding you dont get one unless you request it. if you have the "state migratory bird validation" on your license then you bought the "stamp"

You still need to put your federal stamp from the post office on your license, though

This is the Federal Stamp which must be placed with the state endorsement. $15bucks.

Why do you need to buy a stamp? I did last year but have no idea what it is for.

the Federal Migratory Bird stamp was basically set up way-back-when and the money spent on them goes into a fund to help manage wetlands and basically give back to the waterfowlers who put money into the fund. (obviously more complicated than that)

recently some organizations have been pushing to increase the rates to match inflation because the stamp price has been at a constant rate for a number of years. The idea here is that the $15 it costs now does not have the same buying power as $15 did back when the price was last increased.

The new Ducks Unlimited magazine has an article about the duck stamp act, actually

To legally hunt waterfowl in WA, you need a small game license, a migratory bird validation (the old state duck stamp) and a Federal Duck Stamp with your name signed across its face. I attach mine to the back of my hunting license.

Many license dealers carry the Federal Duck Stamps as do most Post Offices. However, after dealing with a license vendor that no longer carries them and an ignorant Postal Clerk , I decided I'd had enough B.S. for a morning and simply ordered mine on line from the U.S. Postal Service website:

www.usps.com

On the site, merely search duck stamps and you will find them. Shipping is all of one dollar; no matter the quantity.
