elk question

I was doing a little early scouting in an are i know always has elk. I spotted two little bulls feeding about 60 yards away, I got within about 20 when one let out a bark and they took off. I know they didn't see me, they either heard or smelt me. Does this mean these elk are gonna be gone from this are for good or will they be back there feeding again?

they'll be back for sure. whether they are there during whatever elk season you hunt is debatable.

Come August Sept., they'll still be there.  'Course you need to understand that Elk and Deer read the WDFW hunting regs, so that at the appropriate time, they transform into squirrels and chipmunks... cause that's all I ever see...

Well, I have to agree with Mike_D.  Except, They are the ones that write the hunting REGS!

No they just read the regs and migrate to the GMU's that aren't open.  We drove over the 410 pass last year on Thanksgiving day and damn near hit about a dozen elk on the highway in greenwater (not open to elk at the time) got over the pass to a gmu that was open and spent days finding NOTHING.  They don't disappear they just go on vacation.

If you find elk in an area thats not preasured ,they are there for a reason, It's been said that elk only have an 8 hour memory, they do have inherited instinics if your keep bumping them they will find a new spot. try not to bump them out of a bedding area , they ussaully wont come back for 5-10 days .
