Stabilizer, a necessary piece of equipment?

Not too long ago I saw where a few folks mentioned they take their stabilizer off when they go hunting.  I suppose this is for weight savings and general stealth.  It has to affect your shot when you practice with one but hunt without it, right?  What am I missing?  Is a stabilizer an important piece of equipment or not?

I've never taken mine off but I'm curious what you all have to say about the issue.

its all a personal thing, I dont get why anyone would not want one, the little extra weight isnt anything, they balance the bow out and take some shock out of the bow, both worth the extra  3-8 oz IMO

I always hunted with one, it tightens your groups, helps to quiet a bow  Can't think of any downside to one unless your using a really long stabalizer and it hangs up on brush or is really heavy.

I have hunted with a 12 in one for 9 years, thats long in the hunting world and I have never had any issues, and I hunt some insanely thick stuff

On the Stabilizer subject, i use a short one from limb saver, works great..

all depends on person  butt y would you take something off that balances your bow takes shock out and makes for better shot groups,

I think it comes down to which stabilizer you chose.  I prefer to hunt without one, or at least that is my plan this year.  I used a Simms 5-6 inch stabilizer(s-coil) and shot fine with it.  Realistically that thing just killed a little vibration which my SBXT didnt really have.  I have not noticed a difference in my groups.  I think a true stabilzer should be roughly 8+ inches long and weigh around 7-10oz to be effective.  Otherwise its just dress up

Doesn't make much sense either, back home I use to use my 18" super stix because I was in a nice big ol' stand it was my 3-D set up. I would put yourself to a test, shoot a 360 round with it and then one with out it. If you don't see a difference in score or comfort then don't use it, I'll be carrying my limb saver, doinker combo that I have come up with and love.

rob looks like your a stud,climbing those montana hills. I could take it or leave it , heck my day pack is 15-20 lb's ,whats a few ounces if you think you shoot better with it.

Not me, just adds more weight that I don't need to haul around. I had one for a very short time when I first started hunting and it just seemed to snag up on crap.

i used mine in the rain and nasty weather and it worked great!  recorded over 1 dozen videos

it was a fathers day gift
