Stampede unit
« on: July 13, 2009, 02:52:06 PM »
Anyone have any luck in this unit for elk? I was in there last year mid Ocotober and had bulls bugling, a little late for archery. But I heard alot of people hunt it? I was thinking about giving it a try just wanted to know if it would be worth my time.

Its within 40minute drive of my house.  Its definitely got critters, but it is heavily hunted... (maybe because its close to Seattle?), and with budgets being the way they are I would expect even more crowded than normal conditions....

However, I've never hunted it myself... (I go hunting to get meat & get away...)

Thats a really good area, and lots of land to hunt.  Start off at the town of Lester, and follow the road next to the air field.  Take the first cut to the left and get on the railroad tracks to the left.  Go say 1/4 mile and then cut to your left and into the timber.  You'll see game trails all over, nice BIG rubs.  That is where I  would start off.
