a few of my buddies over here say the NRA is the devil.  they say that the NRA only softens the blow but still lets parts of the gun bans by.

a comparison was made to the jewden council.  a group of jews in world war 2 that gave names of jews to the nazis so that they went in an orderly fashion.

I feel that grouping together our collective voices and resources is the only best way to be heard. I believe every hunter on this site, either bow, rifle or muzzle should take the time to join.

Addicted: The comparison that you quoted is so disgusting and off base that it is not worth repeating. I refuse to believe that any significant number of our service men and women believe this. I realize that you are quoting someone other than yourself.

It is fair game to discuss and debate the details of the best way to protect our right to keep and bear arms, but remember that the anti gun rights people want you to make quotes like that comparison. It is the strategy of divide and conquer. Those of us who fall victim to that strategy do more to weaken our rights than Nancy Pelosi could ever do.

As for my opinion on the NRA, they are not perfect, but they do more to protect our right to keep and bear arms than any other entity that I know of. That's enough for me. If you love freedom, and you believe that you should have the right to own a weapon, then you should be a member of the NRA or/and similar organizations of your choice. IMHO

BTW, the NRA does a lot of great things in addition to protecting our rights. Check out their Youth Education Summit that they do annually. Even some basic services like the Eddie Eagle Program do a lot of great stuff for our leaders of tomorrow.

Yes, if not for the NRA and groups like Oregon Firearms Federation there would be no firearms or hunting permitted in this country anymore.  People that say otherwise are painfully dumb and have not done anything to really find out.  There are massive funds of money and collections of powerfully connected people that wake up every day here trying to find a way to stop hunting and firearm ownership.  And it takes tons of money, advocacy and legal action to stop them.  It kills me when outdoor people tell me something like "I'm not into politics" or "I'm just not political" -- if you like hunting, fishing, gun or bow ownership, doing things outdoor without being fenced out or told what to do -- then you are political.  Get out there and speak up for the things you like to do in your lifetime.  This is a link to the Oregon Firearms Federation that does real good work in the state of Oregon:

Not perfect like others have stated but they are the one organization in DC that has the pull to protect our rights.  To not back them because minor difference of opinions is one step closer to all of us loosing our freedoms.

If the NRA did nothing else but share information with the people who still care, they would get my money every year.  If there is someone or something out there, that is better or working harder to protect our rights by attempting to unit us and to speak up.  I have not seen it. If you know of one I would support them too.

The only thing that could be better than a group like the NRA would be serious revolution of thought within our country.

Or a mass plague wipes out bunch or those spineless, panty waist, liberal, socialist intelligence vacuums.

They are the biggest voice in support of firearms in this country today.  Maybe not always the perfect voice, but the BIGGEST, and for that they continue to get my membership, and always will.

If one is a member of their choir the NRA will appear to be doing a good job.  If one is not, the NRA comes across quite differently.  I don't feel the methods of the NRA are particularly strong when addressing the non-gun owning population.  The leadership has a "my way or the highway" approach which only works when you are in power.  With the political shift of the country over the last two elections perhaps a different tack is in order.   :twocents:

I agree, also they spend more time and money on solely speaking to gun owners(who already support their cause). The amount of literature I get and membership renewal pamphlets I receive every month is insane, spend the money on something more important.

I'm a life member and have been for a few years and fully support the NRA and what they do BUT...

They spend WAY to much money on Mailers and Phone calls and other crap to try and get MORE of my money!!!

I already dropped the coin for the Life Membership and was proud to do it but dislike receiving soliciting calls and junk mail constantly from them! I have told many of the "representatives" from the NRA that call me this very thing.

Spend that money on ways to help save my gun rights.

Right now the congress is working on federal language strenghtening interstate transport of weapons. Does anyone think that legislation would be attempted without the work of the NRA and a few other pro-gun groups.

Hey nothing is perfect in any organization or group. Everyone has their own idea about how a group should be run. But without a united voice legal gun ownership would be a thing of the past in this country. I didn't like getting all the requests for contributions and voiced my opinion to them and they cut it back. When I can afford it I give $$$ to help the cause. Regardless of that irritating mail factor I still am proud of being a life-member and recommend anyone who wants to continue owning guns to join the NRA.

Here is a link so you can get a free 1 year trial membership if you have never been a member, give it a try, the 2nd Amendment needs your support.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I think the NRA must have made it a point to cut back mail when people ask, they must have figured out they were alienating some people.

Anyway we give money when something big comes up and when we can. My kids are all members too. Everyone that's a member says the mail is a pain in the a$$. But there is no doubt we need them and many other organizations too. I try to belong to as many organizations as possible, it is organizations that get things done.

Look at what SCI is doing for hunting, NWTF for turkeys, and the list goes on. Support as many hunting and gun rights groups as you can afford.

If you call them and tell them to quit sending all that stuff, they will.  I called them about ten years ago and told them to quit calling and sending, or I was quitting.  It stopped then and never been a problem since.

I paid up for 5 years a while back. Got a couple years left on that I believe. I don't really notice that much junk mail. Whatever I get just gets tossed in the recycle bin. No big deal. I do wish they wouldn't waste so much money on that crap though.

Life member for 15 years.  The way I look at it is that NRA has done and will continue to do a good job.  I don't have to agree with everything that's done, but this group of folks are the biggest and best group of 2nd amendment supports around.  Until something better comes around I will continue to give my support.  Make Uncle Ted proud join today.  Our Kids will thank you.
