North of hwy 2 anyware from Gold Bar to the Stevens Summit.  Steep....Steep....Steeeeeep :yike: and not a ton of roads, but some of the biggest blacktails I have ever seen.  I bow hunt and missed a heavy 4x4 that was probably 20 inches wide and 24-26 high.  It was a toad.  A lot of bear over there as well.  Also, I have very rarely seen a doe that didn't have a buck in tow.  So be pt when you see the bald ones, the head gear will be somewhere close.  Good Luck.

Google the Gold Bar Buck.  There are good genes out there.

257 hit the nail on the head.  If you want to kill a blacktail be in the woods from the 28 - 31.  I'll take those four days over the four days in november anytime.

your crazy :chuckle:, nov is where its at. i'd say hit some national forest or wilderness, lots of areas in the stormking unit that are closed off but you can still walk in

if your lucky you could come out with one of these

A lot less people in oct. than nov. and the bucks are just starting to rut.  My absolute favorite time to hunt blacktails.  If the weather is bad, it makes it that much better.  And another thing that makes it better is when the 28th falls on a monday or tuesday.  You will have the woods to yourself.

You can still bow hunt with a rifle tag.

I would look into some of the units that are over ran with the blacktail and check out the ones that are open shortly after the rut.  Nov.24th  We used to get some nice bucks or with the late archery tags.
Cut em!

That buck was actually not a blacktail.  The guy ended up getting in quite a bit of trouble.  He was buying them on E-bay and cutting the skull plates out of smaller deer and slipping in the new skullplate and then taking pictures.  He sold them to a guy in Colorado and another guy in Cali. I think.  Neither one ever got the antlers and they were proven not to be a BT.  There are no deer at all off of Hwy 2, they have all been hit by cars or killed by wolves and cougars! :chuckle:
