too close for comfort
« on: July 20, 2009, 12:01:55 AM »
I took my three year old son out with me to set my trail cam up for the first time and we got it set up. so i took him to the creek to throw some rocks in and as soon as we got to the edge of the creek I saw movement in the brush 25 yards away. I thought it was some cattle because its a free range there but instead a bear pops out and gives me the stare down for 5 to 10 seconds which was plenty of time for me to get my pistol ready but lucky for the bear he walked away. that was too close because I didn't know if it was a sow with cubs or what but it turned fine.

It was common courtesy, you had your cub with you.....

I accidentally got about 25 feet from a gorgeous bear this weekend.  I didn't have my kid with me though.  He didn't notice me until I tried to get my camera out. LOL  If I would have slipped up and grabbed his tail, it might have gotten a bit more interesting. LOL  He had his head in a stump happily eating ants.

elkrack, glad to hear that no one got hurt on this encounter. Only thing I am fearing once I start taking my baby girl with me backpacking. I think I will be carrying a couple of pistols

Just had something happen like that here last week or so up in the Tampico area. A woman found herself between a sow and her cubs. Luckily she was on a horse and made a quick escape. Don't know the exact details but I guess the bear did give chase. She must of been real pissed to chase off that big of an animal.
