FOB over fletching
« on: July 20, 2009, 10:36:52 PM »
so I was reading through the threads and found some of you guys talking about this product. In all the years I have been shooting a bow, I have never heard of them. I did order them on friday and as soon as I get them, I will put them to the test against the blazers that I am running. It doesn't sound like a ton of people on the forum are using them. I would like to hear some pros and cons from the folks that are/did use them.
thanks guys

bowhunt beat me to it. I have the same rest. So, I need the taller arm. I take it I don't have to take off the containment bar?

you can get a ton of information on FOB Nation.com

I have had them for sale for several years. I shoot them and will never change back. Just comparing to blazers isn't a true test of their capabilities. What I encountered for years was that after practicing for months with field tips, you would have re-tune your bow for broadheads. I can take a fob and almost any broad head and it will shoot same point of impact as a field tip. That to me is the greatest benefit of the FOB.

The FOB is an engineered aerofoil and no fletching know will stabilize arrow flight "as fast" as the FOB.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

I like the FOB's for the fact that I don't have to refletch arrows.  If the IBO would allow them in the Hunter classes, then I'd sell my fletching stuff because I wouldn't ever need it again.  The reduction in crosswind drift is important to me since I hunt some open stuff, and the wind knows how to blow sometimes.  I have had them come off in the woods, but it's always been either a bad nock or a cracked arrow that was the culprit, neither of which I want to fling at an animal.  They steer every broadhead that I've ever tried, even the spears I'm using this year.

I have never used them myself, however i have seen them used quit a bit. From most of the people i see shooting them i gather that they like them quit a bit. My close friend tried them last year but he couldn't get his fall-a-way to clear in time. He messed with it for a long time and never could get it to work. I myself would not sure them because they wont work in a whisker biscuit. They are pretty cool idea anyway! unless you shoot a fall-a-way they are knida out of the question :twocents:

i shoot them and love them great flight and i like the ease of broadhead tuning you just move the nock tell they fly purrfect unlike vanes were you are stuck to cock vane up or down

The TL1 forks are must for Fobs and QAD.

FOB question?

So if I am hiking through the brush will the fobs pull off?

I have had sage brush grab on to a fob while belly crawling towards a Muley. i've never had a Fob Pop off. But have had a whole arrow partially pop off. But never a fob. I love my Fobs and will shoot nothing else. love the control factor in Wind. and that you can shoot most Bh out on the market. I've never owned a fletching jig and probably never will.

I tried 'em.  They flew as good as my fletches but not better.  In the end I'm not using them because they were slower for me to get an arrow nocked on the string, slower to be ready to hit the range and I like being able to shoot groups without breaking FOBs.  If I'd given it more time I'm sure I could have adjusted to them.

The off season is the best time to try fobs. Paul Morris still has a 2 for 1 deal on Archerytalk. thats for off colored neon green fobs. They shoot the same as the regular priced fobs. but Paul has strict Quality control standards. If he see's any color bleed through from a previous color casting. he pulls it off the line. Instead of getting one tube you get two tubes for the price of one. I broke 2 Fobs last year from Practicing and none from hunting. I shoot through haybales and a old glendel rut buck. the fobs pop off on to the ground. So i can still shoot groups and save fobs. But fobs are not eggshells, They can take a beating. The porblem some people have is that they hurry the set up and don't follow the easy steps to shoot fobs and get odd shots from fobs. I was one of them. Now fobs are being seen and winning at ASA tourneys and I know a few guys heading for the IBO Tourneys. I.B.O. will be reviewing the regs on Hunter class to see if they can allow fobs in hunter class. Due to the overwhelming growth with Fob Shooters. Thats more members for them. it just makes sense in this economy.

I'm with huntingfool7 on the FOBs.  I have some and they fly good but I like shooting vanes better.  I don't like where the fob hits my chin at anchor and I also don't like the sound they make.  I also like to shoot groups and the fobs don't hold up well to that.  :)  I will try them with broadheads soon but I haven't had any problems with Blazers steering my Montecs so I don't think there will be any advantage there.

well, I got them in the mail last week and shot a few. then I shot the blazers. after warming up, I shot a blazer then a fob, and repeat. they shoot just fine out of my set up. I didn't have to change anything.
With that being said, I will not be shooting the fob's from here on out. They shoot exactly 3.5" lower than my blazers. I'm pretty sure I don't have to explain what that means. I'm not afraid to try something new as long as it improves what I'm already doing, in this case it didn't.
thanks for the info guys
