Where is everyone heading this weekend for Fishing?
« on: July 21, 2009, 01:42:26 PM »
Haven't decided if I'll run to Lake Chelan with the family yet or not, three ladies and 2 kids apiece, their more interested in going to the slide pool there than going in the boat or going fishing, and the other two guys aren't going to be there and don't want to be the chauffeur back and forth to the wineries and watching some soppy chick flicks, while the kids fight it out on Nitendo and XBox.......  What is everyone fishing for this weekend and where?  Trying to get some ideals and looking for something different than Sturgeon for a slight change...  Salmon running where?

I wish I was fishing, but I'm glad I'm going where I am. The youngest boy is in Port Angeles for his division's State Tournament through Sunday. (they won their first game 10-0 yesterday)  I wish there was some fresh water fishing I could fit in there this weekend. I won't be in Chelan (provided the boys don't advance to Regionals), until the first week of August. I would love to introduce some good Salmon fishing to the boys on the lake or the Columbia some day. -Damn.. No boat.

Hey Mike,

I've been busy as heck this year and haven't had much time to get out.  I did manage to get a float in on the Green with my Steelheader pontoon raft.  I really enjoy floating the rivers in that thing.  Just wish I had a buddy that had one so I didn't have to float by myself all the time.  Anyway, I get back from Denver on Friday, so I'd be available to go fish somewhere this weekend if you wanted to go.  Got a pontoon raft or a friend that has one that you can use for the day?  We could hit the Green, Sky, Sno...any of the local rivers.  Heck we could even head down and hit the Lewis or Kalama.  I'm easy.  Or we could take your boat and hit something bigger.  Give me a holler.  We'll figure something out.  No sense you having to spend a girlie weekend with the family...

If you go to Lake Chelan, you are only about 20 minutes from summer chinook below Wells dam.  Hit the water first light, off by 0900, take the kids to Slidewaters.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

i've only floated from warm springs to maupin. it's some great fishing. the fish are on the banks and eating BWO's probably. the wading is treacherous on VW sized boulders.

Sekiu. The annual fishing trip with my father-in-law. He was up there last weekend and boated 101 fish but only 11 keepers.
Sounds like we should have a blast this weekend.

When you put it that way that seems really doable.  I'll see ya at Bings at about 7pm on Friday.  We'll get a quick limit so you can get back to WA.

Is bad taste in Forum etiquette to quote your own post,  :dunno:

I am amending my post, I am going to try to sneak off the Roofus Woods Saturday morning instead of Blue lake (do not want to deal with the skiers/jet skiers) The wife's Birthday is Sunday so I figure I have a good chance of sneaking out on Saturday.....if I keep a low profile, lol

Probably up the Tucannon River and then hit one of the ponds. I am teaching myself to fly fish so I might walk in to the fly fishing only lake.

Anyone know of any goods spots around Walla Walla/Dayton/Tri Cities? Something within say an hour or so driving?

You didn't miss anything at the Canal. Fished it Friday, and caught one shaker and a flounder. There was 15 or so boats out there, and by 9:45, everyone had either left or went to fish for Humpies in front of the hatchery.

Fished Sturgeon today and boated 14 shakers. Two closest were 34 and 35. Found out my new favorite Sturgeon rod is the G Loomis SAR1265C. If you've never fished shaker/keeper sturgeon on lighter gear, you need to try it.  :IBCOOL:

Headed back to MA12 in the morning.

How did everyone do? My dad and I went to Point Defiance on Saturday. What a zoo but I expected it. We fished Dalco for a couple hours first light without even a tickle. Headed over to the point and my dad nailed a nice 13 pounder. I had one hit my jig rod and just about tear it out of my hand but it came off. My dad landed another small chinook that was under 22". For seeing about 150 boats, we never saw another fish caught, and only heard of a couple others that guys had. The tides are looking better this week though so that should help.

Fished the Edmonds PSA derby, fished the Ship wreck, lost 2 keepers and a caught a bunch of shakers.  I did manage to reel in a Lamiglas rod and Penn fishing reel, it couldnt have been in the water more than a day either, pretty good score!
