Not in Killing Austrian, processing and saving the meat and hide and on our side of the mountain avoiding the bees.

Bone
Thanks, that does make sense!

Last year me and my September deer had to flee from the yellow jackets.  How can you avoid the bees and other flying pest's after a kill in hot weather :dunno: besides not killing anything :dunno:

I hear pepper works pretty good.  Just cover the skinned animal in pepper.   :dunno:  Of course you should have game bags and try to get it out as fast as you can.  If you cant I hear a creek will work.

The problem is everything has to be perfect in warm weather.  If you make a less then perfect hit and can;t recover the animal quickly, all is lost, except skull and claws.  Such a waste IMO.  Even if everything goes as planned you still have to race against the clock not to loose the hide or any meat.  Not worth the risk IMO.

Here is thread on how to take care of meat in the heat.  It is on the elk page but should be the same for bears.  Of course if it is in the 90's you should just not shoot it.  Plenty of times we skipped hunting during the day for early archery deer in Sept.  Sometimes it is just to hot.

nice pic Backwoods.  I dont have any picked out.  I have a few spot with sign but the only track I found was about 4".  Not very big.   :dunno:  I will be going out no matter what but the heat and location will decide if I shoot anything.

One way is to get the gutpile away from teh carcass.  That might entertain them, but its usually inevitable in this heat and you just have to move fast and be prepared in the first place.  My style of hunting is usually 5-10 miles in, even with bear so it does lend to some issues.

I'm sure not advocating giving up any time.  Lots of folks like yourself are prepared and knowledgeable.  It's the joeschmuckatellie that will end up losing and wasting bears.  Those are the guys I hope reconsider when the temps are so warm.

Good luck Ric!!

Westside with the girlfriend.  We hope to get her first bear...and me another.  We want meat and maybe a good rug.

Glassing, spot and stalk.  Maybe calling if we need to get them in shooting postion.

I hope for some cooler weather.

Kurt

My thoughts exactly, have a few bears spotted but there back in a ways and no way with the heat I will be able to get it out. Hard pressed to have a packer help out either, steep country.

Woot!  :IBCOOL: forecast is showing low 80's for opening weekend down here.  Definitely cool enough mornings and evenings.  Might do some yote hunting mid day.  :dunno:  Hopefully the forecast doesnt change to much by next weekend.
