Pink humpies...
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:23:47 AM »
Has anybody been catching the pink salmon yet?  I heard they were starting to run up the rivers, just curious which ones.  And for that matter, when they'll start getting a bit up-stream.

early-mid august on the "S" rivers. i haven't heard of any yet and the sky was almost void of fishermen the other day. if the humpies were there at all, they'd be fishing by the hundreds.

I catch them out in the salt and they're great for smoking and canning.

I used to give mine to some Indians so there dogs would have enough food.  They would freeze them in a chest freezer and just get one out every day for the dogs :dunno:

I always through them back.  However, I did keep a couple 2 years ago and smoked them up for the heck of it.  They weren't too bad.  Fun fish to catch on light tackle.

When I was growing up my friends and I would have humpie tournaments almost every day in AK.. there were some days I landed 200+ fish mostly just kicked them loose.  I was just wondering if they were considered table fish in washington :chuckle:
