GMU 336 Vs. GMU 346
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:27:11 PM »
I was fortunate enough to get drawn for peaches ridge. My hunting buddy and I are still on the fence about what GMU. I say 346 it is a prov en area to hold some good bulls, only problem is the season opens right after the weelin frenzy. :dunno:

Unless you have private land to hunt in 336, I would definitely concentrate on 346. For one thing, 346 does not have a archery general season or a muzzleloader general season. 336 does. Not sure which weapon you're hunting with, if you're archery or muzzleloader you'll want to stay out of 336 just for the reason that it will be crowded with general season hunters.

I have only hunted 346 during late season, but seen a lot of sign. There also is the wilderness area that adds posssibilities...Peaches ridge is one of the best tags to get drawn for. If you get in near the ridge and down into the timber during the day there are some nice animals in there. I have been hunting 340 for years and sometimes I head over to 336 just for the fun of it and I saw some nice bulls in there last season. Funny thing was the best bull I saw in there I was driving on the mainline and he was about 150 yards past a camp full of hunters eating lunch!! He was standing on the Fishhook Flats trail! There is more timber and less offroad activity in 336 than in 340 so a lot of elk head that way once season starts.

The far west end of 346 is your best bet for a good bull .
