Wolf Kills Horse

Just got a phone call. Our neighbor and friend was raised in Council, Idaho. They were down in Adams county for the county fair this last week. Her father lives right in the open fielded valley just out of town. (not out in the mountains)

Her father was telling them about the wolves coming in around the horse corrals this winter. They never seen them, but the tracks would be in the fresh snow in the mornings after a snow.

One night they were late getting back to the house after the rodeo, our friend was putting her horses away at 12:30 pm and she hears a bunch of howling just down the valley about a mile away toward the neighors farm. At 5AM the next morning the neighbors discovered that wolves came into their horse corral right next to their home and barn and killed one of their horses, they ate the whole rear end out of the horse. Sounded just like what many of those elk photos look like that I have been seeing. Authoritues have been notified and this has been confirmed. Let's see if it gets reported anywhere by the news.

Im thinking with wolf numbers rising,I cant help but to wonder,there has to be some ranchers and farmers,culling the wolfs on the quiet side.I would..So how many more wolves would be out then,running the area?

Wolves killed a colt in a small pasture on the San Poil about 2 miles south of Republic last winter.

Nope, just by acquaintances.  I think that they wanted to keep it quiet so they could go looking for wolves.  It could be just a bunch of b.s. but I have a tendency to believe these folks.  They also had a foal killed by a cougar in the sam field a few years ago and I did see the pics of that.  They also shot the cat.

Can't hardly blame them, they probably figure they'd get no help from the "G".

Well, you know how a lot of the folks around there feel about the law.  Sometimes they can be a hinderance in matters such as this.

Wolves were delisted by the Feds in RM states which included Eastern WA (roughly region 1). Once there are enough confirmed wolves in this area the state can delist and the Wildlife Commission could set a season. I am pretty sure this is the steps for this process.

So if we can convince some of these peolple to turn in their problems and sightings it will help in the end. I knw that not everyone will, but all reports will help in the end.

Thats bummer about Horse. I am sure GameFish wont do anything about it. Just sad.. Sometime you spend raise and working on ur favorite Horse and Wolves just take it. Life is never Fair.

If wolves killed one of my horses I'd be shootin for sure...

As far as reports go, unless you get a picture, hair/feces sample, or something that the wildlife dept can POSITIVELY CONFIRM it was a wolf you saw than the report is pretty much useless... they may say "hey thats interesting, I wouldn't doubt it" but I doubt they could use your information in a report to help delist and set up management practices... sad deal but thats my
