Yes they can, especially when your attention is on something else ;)

Isnt that a cool pic. To be honest, I didn't see her until he went and got her up. If you saw all the pics in progression you would see I missed her right till then end.

I did the same with a buck this fall.  i was with Lilly and had that nice 4 point going in front of me.  She was using my binos, hers just weren't working right. ;) and I was looking through my viewfinder at the doe.  All of a sudden I spot a buck in the bush that she is next too.  I don't think the big buck ever knew he was there either.  He stood up and before he could stretch big boy was thinking about issuing an ass whoopin'.

So is he fenced in or fenced out?  That buck there is plain purdy in the typical category.  Little short on his mains, but clean.

Looks like I made that pic too small. Here are some more of the same buck a bit bigger though. Your right, his mains are a bit too short, that why he is still upright ;) None of the deer I have taken pics of are penned, all free roaming. Let me know if these files are too big for you, I will make them smaller next time too. I resized them to 600X400

I know yours aren't penned...I should have put a paragraph between thetwo responses.  I was wondering about the  blacktail
