Dog Transportation

I have an 8 month old black lab and I'm a first time dog owner. Currently I use a pet carrier in my Suburban when we go places. I borrowed it from a neighbor and he is out growing it and I need to move up to the next size. In looking at carriers I have seen the Dog Barrier systems.  The carrier seems to work well when loading up camping and hunting gear, so he has his own place and does not climb over everything. Looking at the barrier system I'm not too sure how easy it is to but up and down.

My question is what are other person's experiences with either system?

My dogs ride in the truck with me or in the camper, they do go with me more then the wife does.....

I have a pickup, so Maggie either rides in the back seat or crate in the bed.  When I had a Blazer, though, the dog rode in the far back and loved it.  If you're careful about how you stow your gear, so it doesn't fall on the dog, you shouldn't have any trouble with either system you choose.

i have a f350 truck with a bed on it and usually my dog rides in the bed or crate , i also have a f350 flatbed truck and she either rides inside the cab with me or sometimes on the flatbed or crate, but i also have a aluminum double dog box for when i get my yellow lab back from wind river labs from training , they will be both riding in the dog box or out of it , in my wifes excursion my black lab rides in a crate , none of this matters to most people its all on how your dog(s) are comfortable and you as well

My 2yr old choc lab rides in a kennel most of the time....sometimes in the bed for a short trip

I like the generic black wire crate. It folds down nicely and is very open, so that your dog still feels like part of the family. Another option if you want to contain your dog is a training collar. If you want your dog to stay in the back of your SUV, the training collar will work great. I like Dogtra, but Tri Tronics is great as well.

Ive got the wire cage and a dog crate,,the wire one is great for camping and its very portable and easy to keep clean..My dog whined the first time she had to sleep in it.Put a old tee I wore for a few minutes she stopped whining..when I get ready to go to bed she walks over and lets herself in..

Crate, always a crate for my two! Less likely to get hurt in an accident IMO.

My dogs LOVE their crates, they'd rather be there than anywhere else EXCEPT hunting.  In fact my older brittany is such a pain in the ass when I'm trying to get my boots on, I gotta crate him before I can tie my boots up.  I swear he flys into that crate at FULL SPEED....then he's happy. 

I'd rather have my dogs ride with me in the cab, but it's too dangerous, too many times I've had to dynamite the damn brakes and the dog pays a price for being loose...

...but hey...that's just me.  To each their own.

Their crates are also handy when I gotta stay overnight someplace, it's their home away from home and their beds...

Mine are always in a crate. I have my canopy off right now with the nice weather and some yard work. My dogs are in the crate alot. Its the same as a dog house. They don't like them as a pup but, as they get older it becomes a safe place. Nice habits for when company is over, eating dinner, leaving them with friends for dog sitting, whatever....
