Alaska fishing report
« on: August 02, 2009, 07:07:36 PM »
Well I got to Alaska with the family late Thursday night and today was the first time I got to spend time on what I think is now some of the best fishing in the world. WOW, the silvers are in outside Wasilla. Took the boat today up the Kinik River and found some sloughs that fish where literally boiling at the surface. My wife took the first cast and on the first cast hooked into about a 15 pound silver, it was a monster. We caught all the fish today on two lures, a #4 vibrax, they would not touch a #5  :dunno: in the same color and 1/2 and 7/8 ounce pixies, colors, chartreuse, orange, and pink.  We fished all day just got home, cleaned our fish and we are actually tired from fishing  :chuckle: Tomorrow I plan on heading out to the Little Su early in the morning and trying my luck out there. I can also say I did not come up with a heavy enough rod, 20 pound line is good but the areas we are fishing are so thick with brush and snags that the fish head straight for the bank and rap you in the alders to quick you cant hardly blink. I did snap a bunch of pics today of everything and some of the fish but I plan on doing a good write up when I get home. I will be back on the 22nd. I will keep people posted on what I see and tell stories of adventures that my family and I are having. I will leave you all with this, Alaska is truly the most beautiful place on earth...
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

If I ever get my wife up there she will not want to come back  :chuckle: Not just the outdoors activity, but the people are so laid back, and friendly. Sure its a bit spendy, but I would live there in a heart beat.

Keep up the fish reports and post some pics.

Just got back from taking a 3 hour shot on the river, got may more than my limit, that only took about 15 minutes once I was finally ready to go, all silvers have not got a pink or sockeye yet... Its going to be hard to leave this place, saw another cow and calf no bulls yet. The Weather is great has been in the upper 60's and blue sky the entire time.

Good to see your getting some fish in the valley.  Ya might want to head a little south.  The reds are fishing really good on the middle kenai.

Slow but steady this morning, woke up to 44 degrees and rain, fished from 5am to 9:30 and only got 4 fish but one was a really nice 12 pound hen. Just being here is the fun part. My moose count as of this morning so far is 7. Hope you all are having fun in WA.

You want to see big bulls, take a drive up to Flattop, go to the left side trail walk to the power lines take a right and follow a bout 2 miles back, early in the morning right at sun rise to somewhere between 6/7, you'll see several of the biggest Bulls anywhere....  Best thing is to take a moiuntain bike and ride back to where it gets really step and they will be off to the left, almost a guarneetee.  Several photographers charge people to take them back there and take pictures of Big Moose, a safari of sorts for tourist....  Go father to the left at the last trail before the ridge and they use to hang out along the trail to Ship Lake..  Keep going and you'll see lots of Dall Sheep in the bowel above the Lake..
