COHO...
« on: August 03, 2009, 06:13:43 PM »
Coho has been lights out around the CR bouy. Put friends boat in at hammond about 0630 sat morn. Hit the CR bouy about 730 and had limits  by 0900. We went through 4 dozen herring, we fished 3 rods with herring and 1 with a coyote and the coyote spoon held its own against the herring.
It is like it used to be in the old days of ocean coho fishing. I imaging bouy 10 will be lights out when the coho really start migrating...

Go get them now but be watchful of the ocean conditions. And the bar.

You might want to go right now... It was pure mahem for about 45 minutes, i couldn't get all the rods in the water. I was plug cutting herring rigging up rods and we woul dhave a fish on before i could get another baited up and down...
Hooked one while reeling up the coyote and holding it next to the boat to check it for jelly fish... It was awesom to watch a fish swim up and hit it while i was looking at it next to the boat.

I doubt  they will close it. I read where the quota is 110,000 that is alot of coho. They just upped the limit of Chinook to 2 because there was 75% of the quota left. Sept 1st coho goes to 3 in the columbia. There are so many coho it is rediculous.

6-10 pounds, but in 2 weeks they will be 8-12 with some in the 15 pound class. They will gain about a pound a week from now untill they start to move into the rivers. They are just gorging themselves right now. Cleaning fish the other day there were whole herring and anchovies in there stomaches, and i had one fish that hadn't finished the herring that was still in its mouth when it hit mine.
