multi season hunting
« on: August 05, 2009, 12:26:40 PM »
I am curious if anyone else thinks we should be all be able to hunt like we have a multi season tag as long as we use muzzleloaders in muzzloader season and so on. or until we fill our tag.

Too many people for what we have for game.  As much as I would love to do it, it would be bad management.

do you think that would still be the case if we dropped the drawings for all the extra tags ? my thought is that it would give you more time to get your animal not more animals. There is also eastern and western bear why not just get your bear. I would be satisfied with getting my one deer, elk, bear a year not multiple of any.

Nay, make that double Nay.  Not a good idea in my opinion.  The multi-season permits allow for this and it is not a change that should be considered.  I would support dropping the eastside vs westside selection for the late season elk hunts.

More time to get your animal would significantly increase the total harvest.  A lot of guys don't get "their" one animal now, so any additional days in the field will only increase the harvest rates.

Seasons would also be more crowded, which is already a problem under the current system.

i like the concept of the multi season tag but i believe it is too expensive for the average person if they draw.

I think it would make it so they weren't taking the first legal animal they saw allowing the animal's to reach maturity. I know i would pass on a lot more animals if i had more opportunity to pick and choose without feeling like it might be my only chance for the year.

I think the multi season tag is a good idea. I think that most people don't have the motivation to learn a new way of hunting. Most people stick with what they are comfortable with. Another option to go with this is you pick eastern or western you cant have both and that would probably help with the significant crowds. Another thing is that no one would feel rushed. It would be more of a leisure thing. Not the weekend warrior thing where you need to get in and get out.

Or triple the amount of multiseason tags and have the multiseason tagholders chose between early and late season but still be able to apply for east or west tags ??  :dunno:

it would be a slaughter.

i would think it would be better to see LESS multi-season tags sold at the same price. weed out those who draw it and don't buy it because they don't want to pay for it.
