grandson drew desert f youth
« on: August 05, 2009, 09:40:33 PM »
We are not familiar with the desert but we put in for it understanding it is a great permit area. We have made 2 trips to the area and are planning several more prior to season 9/26-27. Have found some sign and huntable areas but could use any help you have to offer. We are hoping to get a nice buck for him. Its a rare privilege to have this chance and we want to make the best of it. Also any info on reasonable lodging in area would be helpful. He is 14 and enjoys hunting with me want to make it last.

Deer in that unit will be very close to water and holed up in the cattails and russian olive thickets at that point in time, I hate to say it but they put that youth hunt at about the worst time out there, have some people along to push through the brush and post your grandson up where he can get a good shot and he may get a nice buck

Sent you a PM.

Very hard hunt due to the heat. Deer are so nocturnal this time of year. I wish they would give the kids a better tag. Like a December-January tag would be great for any kid.

sorry for delay on response I am not as good with this tech as I would like kids got thing working for me though now. thanks for info and I will continue to respond and monitor as best I can. I am really looking forward to this will be a defining event for me and my son and grandson. If there is any info on reasonable lodging close into area it would be most appreciated, some of my most fond memories are in the experience of the hospitality of the country I love to be in.
