For those who have a bipod -

How tall of legs do you have on it?  I'm looking at a Harris and was thinking about the 12"-25" model which would cover me for a high prone to sitting position. Is this the correct sort of zone, or do I need to look at the real high versions?  Thanks for the help as always!

i use a shooters ridge bipod which is a copy of the harris mine extends to 23" works for me but i am 5'8" so it depends on your height. tall enough for me in the sitting. i havent used it prone

I sort of mocked things out last night and at 23" I could be in the sitting position and on the low side I could do a fairly high prone position. I think this will be a good combo but just wanted to check here before I dump $$$ on something that won't work for me.

I have the Shooter's Ridge 15"-23" (sitting for varmint) and 9"-13" (bench/prone).  They are good bipods, but Harris bipods are excellent (better materials/very solid).

Remember, too, that occasionally you will be on a hillside, where you might wish for a slightly longer leg.

Have a Harris series S model 25C 13 1/2 to 27inches and weighs 19 oz  fits my needs quite well. Easy to attach an disconnect.

I have the same Harris Big10 has, and love it.  Ivar, for a home-made job, take two dowels, use one fat zip tie, and you are good to go, just slide the zip tie up or down to where you need you gun, and open up the sticks.  I used that for years before I bought the Harris about 13 yrs ago.  I still use the sticks on my AR which I still haven't mounted a swivel stud for the bipod.....  Some day I'll get around to it.

My son really likes the tall Harris bipod on his rifle. It's helped him make some shots that would have been too difficult for him without it. Works fine both prone and sitting. Particularly useful for sitting:

I feel that Harris builds the best quality bipod on the market.  I own several, and the 12-25" is what I mainly use while hunting.  I am 6 ft. and that model allows me to shoot from the sitting and prone positions fine.  Th main thing I would suggest is to get the model that cants from side to side.  They are heavy, and if this is a issue or you're hiking a lot, the snipe pod is a fairly quick, lightweight bipod that attatches quickly to your gun when needed and actually swivels from side to side. The 13-27 inch model harris works well for my buddy that is taller.

I also own a couple of Harris and a couple of the cheaper Shooters Ridge bi-pods. That said, the Harris is a much stronger metal and will not bend like the pot metal used in the Shooters Ridge models. You will also kick yourself for not getting the pivoting style.   

I used a bi-pod exclusively for many years. I switched to a set of shooting sticks from Predator Sniper Styx early last year and have not looked back. In fact, both my son and I are using them now. What will work the best is a matter of personal opinion and terrain. If you are in any kind of hilly land, the bi-pod will give you fits. Shooting sticks will allow you to adjust for just about any kind of terrain or shot. If, for example, you have to drop them for a quick shot on something moving, or to swing your rifle for a close shot, the sticks just drop away, not add 25+ inches that feel like they weigh a ton and a half and will allow you to make the shot. The other big advantage of sticks, in my opinion, is that they are quicker to adjust than any bi-pod. After some time getting used to them, you can pivot left or right and just use one leg. No way to do that with a hard mounted bi-pod. If you crest a hill and get busted, with the sticks, it is a matter of hitting your knees and using them as a mono-pod and get a shot that would be off hand with the bi-pod. They will increase your odds.

As I said before, it is personal opinion and preference. My best piece of advice would be to see if any buddies have either that you can actually go make a stand or two with to help make your decision.

Versapod.  Luv it.  Shoot almost everything from a sitting position now.  If I jump something I flip out the legs (all the way), flop down on my butt, get a steady hold and wait for the target to slow/stop...

  Plus it pops right off and goes on othe rifles if you have multiple mounts

Great choice!  Be careful though on pulling back on a Harris to lower it though.  Some of my guns won't group at all with the torque this creates.
