New WA hunter, new Weim pup.
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:43:59 PM »
I have never been hunting in WA, from MI originally.  I have a 5 month old Weim pup and am in Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island.  Looking for someone to hunt with to learn bird hunting and to hunt my dog.  I grew up hunting squirrel and rabbit with my dad back in MI but never did any bird hunting so I have no idea what I am doing.  Grouse in the mountains quail or phesant in western WA would all be great.  hope i hear from someone!!!  PM's OK.

cummingsa, it is too bad where I will be grouse hunting this year is on private land (Hancock) and everyone has to have permit to be there. Not to much for quail here in Western WA. There are pheasant release sites on this side of the state, but they do get crowded and I wouldnt recommend taking a pup their for its first hunt(s). Best I can say is take HWY 20 and head up in the hills for grouse or go all the way to the eastside and hunt around Brewster for quail and pheasant. You could even head towards Wenatchee from there or go north on 97. I am gonna try and get to the eastside of the state some this year with my 11 mo old GWP pup, but it will mostly be training and not a lot of hunting since this is her first year hunting. Maybe we can get together and run the pups sometime. Good luck and let us know how you do.
