The drawback with any reticle scope is shooting between them.  If you have a 500 and a 600 yard reticle, that's great if the animal is at 500 or 600 yards.  If the animal is at 547 yards, you have to estimate where to hold.  With clicks, you can get very precise.

No system is perfect, and all require practice.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

ok thats fine with me.
I don't live where you are and where I hunt our wild game
never stands and poses for picture taking or waits for you to
look through your range finder and then check your chart and get every
thing set on your scope so you can
take a shot at the animal that was there but gone now.

Taking 400 yard snap shots at schitt is asking for trouble... inside 250 it's all good... but after that I want a little more thought going into a shot than:

"Look, a deer"

"He's a long ways"

"I'm sighted in for 400 yards though!"

If you hit a scope hard enough in the turret to hurt the scope, the main tube is going to get bent before the turret breaks.

After you had to track it for 3 miles because you shot it in the ass... I'd rather not shoot... or take the time to make a quality shot... than huck rounds at unknown distances that may or may not hit somewhere in an 8.5" area.

Mmmmmmmm.... yummmy.... paunch shot deer for dinner boys!

Without a rangefinder that 400yd deer could be 350-500yds,every year i hear of a guy missing a deer at about 400yds. Because he really does not know.
