release.... ever have this happen to you?

I seemed to have misplaced my good Scott release, so this morning I grabbed my cheap-o back up release.  Not even sure what brand it is.  I'm shooting and suddenly on about the 5th shot I pull back and am just starting to put the site on the target... and there goes my arrow!  My finger wasn't even touching the trigger!  I always put my finger behind the trigger when pulling back, and I had just started moving it out and to the front when it went off.  That release is going in the trash.... Anybody else ever have that happen?

Sure have and it went in the spare parts bin immediately.  I now use a Carter Release and love the way it works and handles.

Yes I have. also had a brand new release that would hold the string after triggered. It wasn't beveled and the string would hang on one side or the other. It is in trash now too. I learned to really look at the release before buying it. thankfully i figured that out before I headed out hunting with it.

This has happened to me a couple times with cobra's, when I was younger. Now it's carters and scotts for my back ups.

I have two releases both Scott's and have never had a problem with either of them launching an arrow until I am ready.

Yeah, me neither, I love my Scott release.  The one I had a the problem with was some off brand back up release... which is now in a land fill somewhere.

Iv'e been using the same Cobra wrist release for about 15 years, still works great and have never had any problems with it.

Just two weeks  ago I had the exact same thing happen. I lost three arrows two with broadheads before I figured out it was my release. Got a great new release. "true fire" foldback. Love it.

Yup, had that happen quite a few years ago, was shooting at 55-60yds, pulled back and up over my target, just started to come down and there it goes, way out in the pasture, im thinking did i bump the trigger, naw my finger was behind it.
So i nock another and just point my bow down and pull back, almost to full draw and "fump" right in the ground next to my foot  , so i think huh that was not smart (im a slow learner), so i nock another and walk up to the target 5yds, hold and pull back "fump", yep my release is bad, went in the shop, broke it for good and got a new one, never had a problem since, (now were is some wood to knock on?)

I've been using a true fire release and it has worked great for me at 63# draw.  I usually try to remember to push forward on the trigger to be on the safe side. I also draw my bow with it aimed down as to not launch an arrow to never, never land.

Happened to me last summer while shooting with a brand new release. After it happened again, I returned the release and got a different one that hasn't failed me yet.

I bought another Scott Sabertooth today, I'm back in business.  Knowing my luck, I'll probably find the other one that I misplaced tomorrow, but then I'll at least have a great back up release instead of the junkie unreliable one.

its happened to me also, the problem is there should be an adjustment screw under the trigger that sets sensativity of the pull of the trigger, just tighten it little and it should hold.

yes the allan scew backed up on you reset the tension and use a bit of fingernail polish for locktight works great, o yeah always draw down at your target.

anyone have a video of a bow being dry fired and shattering?  i can't find one, but would like to see it.

Using a cobra for about 12 years now.  Never had a problem with it except calipers freezing together after sliding on my ass down a hill.  I didn't shake and blow the moisture off and the temps were hovering between 10-15 degrees that day.  Same day our snowmobiles got vandalized 12 miles from camp.  Perp cut out the plug wires and then took them to the local sherriff to report us (thought we were in an area closed to motor vehicles).  Luckily we got cell signal and got some friends to come drag us out.  Ya, he was sighted and lost in court and paid restitution.

Had the same thing a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to increase the sensitivity of the trigger and adjusted it a tad too much and sent an arrow through the fence and since I wasn't wearing a arm guard I ended up with a nasty string burn down my arm.

Had it happen to me last year in Montana only I was shooting a buddies bow, we never did find his arrow
