that is cool. are they all your sets? feel like showing a noob the ropes?

Littlebuf, they are all my sets........I can try to help you out to a point....Feel fee to ask by PM

Best advice i can give anyone on Trapping or Hunting is to learn all they can about the target Animal......

Next learn to read and AGE sign........

proper placement of a trap and don't be afraid to experiment......

The trapping convention is a good place to learn.....but it sometimes takes time for the old farts to warm up to ya...loll

If you do make it to the show....Look me up....I am doing a demo sometime on Saturday..

I'm pretty sure thats an accompl;ishment Bullchaser.  My grandfather always said coyotes were one of the most challenging animals to dupe.  Them and wolves anyway.

This inexperienced "live trapper"  had fun trying to get a cat out of a live trap as well.   I am laughing hysterically thinking there has to be a better way after seeing that porcupine in one.

Nice job guys!

That beaver don't look none too happy Machias.

Hannibal - Wow

Bullchaser - Where is that drop door cat cage from?  Did you build that yourself or is that one of Steelykingfishers traps he got rid of when he headed to the great white north?  I'm guessing the drop door is not as affected by the snow as a swing door.

Ah.  I was thinking (hoping?) this one might be Nutria.
  Look pointier-snouted than Beaver.

I have heard they are in Scatter Creek now, but haven't seen any sign of them yet...

Cool photos.  Trapping intrigues me, and has since I was a little kid reading adventure stories.  Doubt I would be much good at it myself, but I do very much enjoy the vicarious enjoyment from your photos!  Thanks!

Nope, Mountain Beaver.  Nutria are a darker grey and quite a bit bigger - up to around 30lbs. They have a nose similar to a beaver. Long round tail - like the big over grown rat it is. They will be in or near the water.

They are in Scatter Creek. We caught them all the way from McIntosh to the Race Track - Up until the trapping laws changed in 2000. Johnson Creek, Salmon Creek, Skook, Deschutes, Silver Creek too. The population is probably pretty thin this year due to the cold winter last year. Since they originate from South America, they can't tolerate extended cold periods very well, really reduces the numbers. That's why they aren't on the East side for eather Oregon or WA, they can only tolerate the generally milder winters on the "wet side."  Otter and big bore mink will do a number on them too.  We sure kept the coyotes well fed during the winter on them  - I think one winter between dad and I we caught over 100 in the areas mentioned - They weren't worth squat unfortunately.  That was somewhere between 91' and 94' I believe

I like all the water animals! Never would have thought of mink or otter in a box trap.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
