Anybody hear how the fishing is? Are they in? Is it going to be a good run this year?

Get them before the tribe does!  I have seen a few at Purdy Creek already.

the trailer trash snaggers are out in full force, that's for sure.  bobber and eggs is the sure way to get them.

however, we're having extreme low water this year so they aren't coming into the river in big pushes.

A buddy told me they aren't in yet.

I used to hit the river on opening day and usually slammed em, but anymore there are too many snaggers and the Joe Dirt whitetrash crowd for my taste.

BTW - Yarn and corkie do just fine there

Same with me. Nothing like fighting snaggers and indians at the same time for 1 king. Not intrested anymore. And yes they are in. Thye showed up last thursday. About the time the water temps dropped. HMMMM.

i always hear everyone bitch about the nets, this time of year they really aren't that bad.  it's when the coho start showing up that the tribe starts putting nets in areas that i like to fish...i've never seen a gillnet where i fish for kings.

the indians there don't bug me too much.  they're doing what's legal for them, and though i don't agree with it(no gillnets should be allowed in rivers IMHO), the behavior is exponentially worse on the "white" side of the river.  no regard for the law or the resource at all for the most part.

They haven't yet but they will soon have nets from one bank of Purdy Creek to the other blocking everything in its path.

I fished it yesterday and the indians put their nets in at 7:30am, and they aren't supposed to go in until noon, but like was mentioned, the attitude on the "white" side is much worse. Heard one guy yell to the indian setting his net that he was too early and that he had a gun on him.  :bdid:

I fish the same spot as BigGoonTuna, and like he said, there are no nets. Bobber/eggs or drift fishing eggs if you can find the right spot is the way to get them if you really want them to bite.  :twocents:

I hooked 3 yesterday, landed 2, and took home a 15lb hen. What's really weird is that I only set the hook 4 times all day yesterday (missed one fish)....all the guys using corkies/yarn set the hook at least 100 times. I guess they must have been getting more bites than me.

Today I watched a Skok pull 5 kings about 15+ pounds and a couple of pinks out of his net up by Hoodsport.  I also pulled over and watched a bank fisherman at that first pull out north of Hoodsport fight and land a 12-14 lb king.  It was funny watching him chase it up and down the bank and almost falling over himself but neat to see him get it in.

I fish the skok down on the first hole on the river... Usually toss bober and eggs. Last year i tossed a weighted number 4 spinner with a number 4 french blade and i was having a blast. I got some of the corkie and yarn snaggers to switch, they actually saw fish hit a lure instead of line bumps... Amazing what you can teach people if they want to learn how to do it right...

Had a kid tell me that because the fish was hooked gill plate forward it bit his corkie and it was legal... I told him he should learn how to read...

I was fishing right above the bridge on Sunday drift fishing eggs, and I was the only one in there. The next guy came down throwing corkie/yarn and asked me what color I was using. I told him I was using bait, and he said, "Well if that doesn't work, you should switch to either purple or black yarn and a dark colored corkie."  :chuckle:
