Now I know...
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:15:05 PM »
where there is actually a bear, not just crap!  Just came back from my latest foray, my second year of actually putting some time in trying to tag a bear.  I was driving into an area I hadn't scouted yet.  A guy at work (berry picker and fisherman) had told me where he had been last weekend and was surprised they hadn't seen a bear due to all the scat.  He was very helpful, giving me great directions and printing out some GoogleEarth maps for me.  So this afternoon, I get to the point where you turn off the main road, and the walls close in .  I knew I could drive through the brush narrowed road to the hike in point, but briefly considered parking and walking all the way in.  Oh what the hell, the wife and older kids have been beating the hell out of the rig, what's a few scratches.   :dunno:  Should have walked!  :bash:  About halfway down the trail, I came around a gentle curve and saw a bear spin around and run down the trail from me.  Nice colorphase brown.  Big too.  I was only about 30 yards behind it.  I followed it for several seconds.  Kinda funny, all *censored*s and elbows!  I stopped, but it just kept going.  It disappeared around another curve.  That was the last I saw of it.  The adrenaline level was a bit high for the rest of the trip...  Can't wait for the berries to ripen.  Gotta go back soon!

Very cool, am waiting for my first adrenalin rush from a bear.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

It was pretty cool.  Still kickin myself for not listening to the little voice in my head saying, "Walk in."  Oh well, can't wait to go back again. :)

Still waiting on my first real adreanaline rush from a "close encounter of the bear kind" too. Told my mom about getting all my new hunting licenses and she said " oh lord let me pray for that boy!"  :dunno: :chuckle:  I have been hunting with a bow since I was 12 and a rifle/shogun since 14 but until I got out to WA never thought about bear or cougar hunting, now I am infected with this new strain of hunting bug!
