Montana Greydiggers
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:47:42 PM »
I posted some of these pics on an earlier thread.  Me and the boy vs. the greydiggers in Ennis Montana for 2 days.  What a blast...!!
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Looks like good times!  That's a good idea for getting your boys some shooting, I'll have to remember that when my 2 are a little older.

Your boy will remember these times forever.  Great job on getting out there.

You are right, it was probably the best marksmanship training I could have gotten him.  Usually we shoot at the range with benches, sandbags, known distances etc...  This was much more realistic.  Walking across the prairie with rifle and stix, spot a target, assess the range ("Dad, I know I can hit that..."), flip out the stix, get a steady sight picture, squeeze... and POP!  Instant feedback!
A couple of times we saw antelope at 150 or 200 yards.  I would set up the stix, he would get behind the scope and I'd say "Do you think you could hit him?"  After shooting 8 inch tall diggers those lopes looked huge to him.  "yeah dad.  easily!"

LOTS of confidence for this deer season.

Gosh that looks like fun. Even with rimfires!

Is there much public land over there to wack little ground squirels and the occasional doggy? Does Montana require a non-res hunting license for that?

We were hunting private (a ranch that my buddy rents a place on).  It bordered public (BLM) land though.
