Where to go in Vancouver
« on: August 12, 2009, 04:05:55 PM »
Hey, y'all!

I'm fairly new to SW WA, moved out here about 6 months ago from Flagstaff, AZ and am DYING to get some big fishes! I've done a lot of trout fishing in my days, but never any steelhead and salmon. I'm living in Camas, WA right now and am looking for places to go to get some good fish. I'm not asking for anyone's honey holes or anything like that, just some general ideas on where to go. I've driven up the Washougal river, but everything I saw is either along private property or is nothing but rocks right now. I don't have a boat and will be shore fishing with spinner gear. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

have you tried fishing the mouth of the Washougal? head up hwy 14 to the White Salmon River, I have a few buddies that have good results there, and you can head north to Woodland and fish the Lewis River, if you go to WholeSale Sports you can get more info in the fishing department.

Damn I wish I still lived there. The Columbia, the ocean is close, Lots of rivers and streams. You are now living in the absolute best fishery in the world. ( my personal opinion ) There are plenty of places to fish and avoid private property but if you see something you like you can always try to obtain permission.
This closet is taken- go find your own

hathaway park or  cop shop or  behind the pizza palace, 4 mile marker look for the pull off just before a driveway and a trail starts right there follow it down
good long drift in there(my favorite) any place you can find a pull off beware of private prop. all these places are open to fish lots of fish caught in all of'em I fish mostly winter fish less people on the river.

The fishing is about to get good on the Washougal.  Time to hit the toulies.  The mouth on up to the steel bridge.  Lots of spots.  Used to fish behind the bowling alley, then the 7.5 mile marker, etc.  Lots of good areas.  The Lewis river is also expecting a nice run of silvers.  Your in a good location for fishing.  If you buy an Oregon license you have the Sandy straight across from you almost.

The Kalama usually has a good run of silvers and Chinook.  That river has produced a lot of fish for me under the railroad trestle next to the freeway.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

I like watching the game wardens write all the tickets in this spot along with the camp grounds for snagging.  Sounds like a whipfest on the bank.  When your setting the hook keep the rod from passing behind your head.  Just a little advice. :twocents:

Nos the last week of august, first week of sept. go get some brads wigglers in the BW 74 color and hit the north fork lewis. Look to the hatchery we have some epic days up there. No tule in the washougal is worth the pain in the butt that comes with it. You can plunk or toss spinners in the slough at the paper mill.

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to try some of the spots next week.

Any suggested tackle configurations?
