Turkey Hunting
« on: August 13, 2009, 10:44:07 AM »
I just got a shotgun and am wanting to get into turkey hunting. I am unfamiliar with the regulations for turkey, when to hunt and where to hunt in Washington. Can anyone fill me in??

You can check out the spring season in the Spring Turkey Regs and the Fall seasons in the Big Game Hunting Regs located on the WDFW website. They also have the harvest statistics in the spring regs.

Spring season is April 1 thru May 31st for bearded birds. Approx 70% harvested in the NE corner of the state where you can get 2 birds. You can also get 1 bird on the westside of the state.

Early fall season this year is Sept 19 - Oct 2nd. Two beardless birds allowed in units 105 thru 124 (NE corner again).  There are approx 6 general units and 6 special permit units (drawing already has been done) that you can take an either sex bird (again in eastern Washington.

There is a late fall season from Nov 20 thru Dec 15 where you can take another eaither sex bird in units 101 thru 124 (NE corner again).

You can also visit the older threads on this website (like those just before the spring season). Would also help to know where you live ... members of the NWTF give free clinics around the state especially in the spring.  I did 4 in the last year (3 at Cabelas in Olympia and 1 at Sportsman's Warehouse in Silverdale), one friend did 1 (at the Outdoor Emporium in Seattle), another friend 1 in Spokane, another several in the Tacoma/Puyallup/Federal Way area, ......

Thanks for the info!

I actually live in Vancouver, so the NE part of the state would be a ways for me to go hunt. I thought I heard about the season being in April but I didn't see it in the reg book.
