took my son bear hunting
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:05:36 PM »
well took my son out today with his bow..I set him up below me about 18yrds from an old beaver dam and a butt load of salmon berry brush..1st call there was movement in the brush,I'm thinking deer it was quick...called 20 min or so nothing..wind is swirling, and my son is edgy still from the movement..I almost laughed outloud, watching his intense stare where the movement came from..I raised an elk grunt tube up to my mouth and cub bawled with my voice...Nothing..I decided to get up,as soon as I started to rise I got woofed at,and heard the exit stage left light come on.My son looked at me with eyes that looked like a new inmate in prison.LOL.I never seen the bear..No luck the rest of the day,2ND set my son asked if I would take my 44mag in this time..well it was a good day even though we didn't see a bear..My son is hooked.I should have kept him at 25 or 30yards,I have a feeling the bear would have shown itself..PS I had my 44 in my coat the whole time didn't want him to know..Another PS F%$K skeeters now I know why I don't hunt in Aug

Sounds like a good day!  Can't beat hunting trips with Dad.  Some of my fondest memories were with my Dad out hunting.  My 7 year old daughter is just getting past the 'eww' factor of baiting lines and cleaning fish.  Couple years here and we'll start her on her .22.

Your boy will remember those trips forever, it's very cool that you're taking him out!

My buddy bought me one he said while cleaning an elk last archery season he about got ate up now he packs it with him. Hope your boy gets a shot.

the cub bawling sound makes me nervous, and Im a close encounter junkie..my son is 29yrs he cant carry a gun because he defended himself one night yrs back..I didnt have any hope of calling one in at all with the wind movement..I used the call killbilly wanted to get her started,Im assuming its a sow..I did find some poopage with a fawn hoof in it,just a piece, hope it kicked its ass on the way out
